We have also heard from OPD about a an ATM scam in which a machine is rigged to withold the victims card and the victim is then duped into showing someone their pin. OPD tells this has not yet been reported in Oakland but we should be aware. A description of this scam can be downloaded here (PDF).

Police Chief Tucker has made a statement (PDF) that in response to community feedback they are instituting a policy of mandatory overtime throughout Oakland. The goal is to reduce response time, maximize officer safety and paradoxically reduce officer fatigue from working too much overtime. According to the announcement there will also be redeployment of officers away from foot patrol and "late tac" (sideshow related enforcement).

Lastly we have been informed about the Family Watchdog website which provides information about registered sex offenders by geographical location. Enter our zipcode 94607 and zoom into the map for the details. You can also sign up to be notified when new registered people move into the area.
